Explore Galé’s beaches
The main beaches in Galé are Praia de Galé Oeste and Praia de Galé Leste – the west and east beaches. The beach stretches for miles up the west coast towards Albufeira, making it the perfect place for a walk or water sports.
Alternatively you can head to the small Praia do Manuel Lourenço which is to the east of Galé. This is a very quiet beach with some amazing rock formations that you can admire from the shore or from one of the local restaurants. There’s a small car park here and it’s easy to access.
Go horseback riding
For a different way to explore Galé’s beaches, saddle up on a horse and head for a ride along the beach.
Enjoy the Algarve cuisine
Galé is known for it’s fresh fish and seafood, offering some really great value meals. A lot of restaurants have an amazing view of the sea you can enjoy dinner watching the sun set over the ocean.
Learn to surf
There is a popular surf school that offers classes for beginners through to pros. You can also just have a go yourself by hiring a surf board. The ocean is busiest at dawn and sunset, when there’s the best waves.
Get a massage
Right on the beach you’ll find little wooden huts offering massages for only €30–35 for a half hour session.
Go on a boat trip
10 minutes away from Galé is the marina, with a huge range of amazing boats and lovely places to eat. From here you can take a boat to take you out to look at caves and search for dolphins. Book this in advance as they fill up fast as one of the best things to do in Galé.

Galé can be best enjoyed from May – October, where the weather is the hottest. From November – April, a lot of businesses in the area close down due to lack of tourism.
How to get to Galé
Galé is only 30 minutes from the airport by car, so you can arrange a transfer, book an Uber or hire a care to get here. It’s also only 10 minutes away from Albufeira, which is a lot livelier and a great place to head in the evening for a more upbeat vibe.
