It’s a no-frills stop in the center of the Old Town, with famous haggis pies, steak scotch pies and some fantastic vegetarian options too. You can also grab dessert, as their apple and raspberry pie is well loved with the locals.

2. The Pasty Shop

Serving up Cornish pasties is The Pasty Shop, based in Waverley rail station. It’s ideal to grab something on your commute or on the go. They have a whole range of hand pies on offer, from succulent beef, to cheese and onion, to vegetables.

MUMs is a retro style diner that’s become an Edinburgh institution. Their meals will take you right back to childhood in the best possible way. They do some of Edinburgh’s best pies, and have a good selection on the menu – chicken and ham, steak and ale, shepherd’s pie and fish pie included. For vegans, there’s a pumpkin and sage pie that’s served with a creamy tomato sauce and hand cut chips.

4. Masons Bakery
3, 1 Starbank Rd, Newhaven, Edinburgh EH5 3BN
You’ll often see queues outside this traditional Scottish bakery in Newhaven. They’ve been around for decades, and make old-fashioned pastries including mince pies, steak pies, and more modern curry and macaroni pies.

5. Simple Simon’s Perfect Pies
Edinburgh Farmer’s Market at Castle Terrace, Edinburgh EH1 2EN
You can find Simple Simon’s Perfect Pies at the farmer’s market at Castle Terrace, on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. They bring delicious hand-made pies from their bakery in Biggar, and have been a favourite with locals for years. Popular choices include haddock and leek, chicken and tarragon, and their amazing breakfast pie.
Since the pandemic, they’ve also been offering their pies online for home delivery. All you need to do is reheat for 20 minutes and enjoy!
6. John Bain & Sons
2 Stenhouse Cross, Edinburgh EH11 3JY
This local butcher is one of the best places for pies in Edinburgh. Their most loved is their Scotch Steak mince pie, with many traveling for miles to stock up on them. Expect delicious, tangy gravy with well-seasoned, tender meat. Delicious both hot and cold!

7. The Scran & Scallie

For a more upmarket pie, head to the Scran & Scallie gastropub in Stockbridge. They’ve been awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand award. The scran here is pretty amazing, using the best local and seasonal Scottish produce. If you’re a pie lover, try the hearty steak pie. You’ll find a generous portion of tender steak meat with a rich gravy, covered with a lovely pastry crust. They also have a creamy fish pie on offer.

8. Auld Hundred
100 Rose St, Edinburgh EH2 2NN, UK
On Rose Street you’ll find this historical Edinburgh pub, one of the oldest in the area. They do traditional pub grub, including one of the tastiest steak pies you’ll eat. The steak meat is incredibly tender, and the puff pastry topper is cooked to perfection. It’s served with a side of local veg and a choice of chips or potatoes to mop up the leftover gravy.
