Ruben Dawnay’s Ruben’s Reubens is making a comeback, this time with a three-month residency in Brixton Village starting from November 10, 2023. The renowned chef, who previously appeared at Robin Gill’s Rye by the Water in Brentford, is reuniting with Gill for this exciting venture.
The Brixton Kitchen competition holds sentimental value for Ruben, as it marked his humble beginnings and led to the establishment of the first Chishuru restaurant. Returning to Brixton for this residency is a full-circle moment for Ruben, bringing him back “where it all started.”
Central to the experience are Ruben’s signature reuben sandwiches, a homage to his Polish-Jewish heritage. Robin Gill praises Ruben’s unique touch with smoke, describing the flavors as something that “properly slaps you in the chops.”
The menu promises a mouthwatering array of options, including hot honey burnt ends, house lamb sausage, and Kung pao-strami cauliflower. Salt beef sandwiches, a latke bun, and malted milk ice cream round out the offerings, ensuring a diverse and satisfying culinary journey.
Located at 10 Market Row, Brixton, London SW9 8LD, the residency kicks off on November 10, 2023, and will continue for three months. Ruben expresses his excitement, stating, “I’m beyond excited that it’s finally become reality. Expect big sandwiches, smoked BBQ, a serious cocktail selection, great music, and lots of guest chef appearances.”
