Having first graced Abbeyhill in 2020 and later establishing a 44-seater spot in Morningside in 2021, MATTO’s new venture on Newington Road promises to be its largest yet, accommodating up to 66 diners. The renowned eatery is famed for its award-winning wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas and delectable Italian desserts.
Taking over the former Apiary site, MATTO’s Newington venue boasts interiors crafted by the MATTO team. The vintage-inspired design features intricate wallpaper, a captivating gold mirrored pizza oven as the centerpiece, and an open kitchen, allowing patrons to witness the pizza magic in action.
Nel, co-owner of MATTO Pizza, expressed excitement about the expansion, stating, “When we launched MATTO, just three years ago, our vision was to create tasty Neapolitan-style pizzas that, while being innovative and fun, had absolutely no compromise on the quality of the ingredients.”
The official launch is set for Thursday, November 23, and to celebrate, MATTO plans to treat the first 500 customers to a free takeaway pizza.
